31 May – 30 June 2019
UNIT is pleased to announce Interior/Exterior, an exhibition of photographs by Michael D’Este.
Michael D’Este is a writer, researcher and postgraduate student of Modern and Contemporary Literature at the University of Manchester. His practice focuses on the points of intersection between culture and society. Both academically and in terms of his work as an artist, D’Este’s output is an interdisciplinary investigation of intellectual history as it pertains to the arts and media.
D’Este’s academic research interests are rooted in art theory and aesthetics, cultural studies, literary criticism, philosophy, political theory, critical geography and historiography; subjects that are interwoven into the narratives of the photographs he makes in his spare time.
Interior/Exterior is a selection of photographs taken on 35mm film in colour and black and white. The camera has the potential to make the familiar unfamiliar; the lens is both an entryway and a blockade to a nexus of intersecting realities. The works in Interior/Exterior are visual but also contextual records of specific places as the artist experienced them at a distinct moment in time. When viewed together, D’Este’s photographs manifest as a complex archive of everyday information.
Join us for the Private View of Interior/Exterior on 30th May from 7pm at Abingdon Studios*. Blackpool North train station and parking nearby. Abingdon Studios does not have wheelchair access at this time. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
